About

Driftwood Bay Tourism is about a lot of things. If I could simplify it... or break it down to a simple phrase, it would be: Forgiveness is the most powerful gesture in the universe. Or something like that. There are many stories interwoven between the characters, but the main theme above all else is that things can change and be better if you have the strength in you to change them. And if that strength isn't found within yourself, then leaning on a support group that will help you get to that point.

In this same vein, DWBT is also about the effects of perpetual loneliness and pain on the human mind and heart, and what kind of delusional states this can cause. Where there is happiness and peace, there is also suffering and crushing solitude. This duality is very important.

Themes | Setting | Etc.

The setting of DWBT is based heavily on the places I grew up and roamed as a youth. The deep south is my home, and very special to me, even with all of its flaws. The people, culture, and community will stick with me for my whole life, and these things are also the blood that flows through my stories and characters. A lot of the media I have come to love growing up has also centered around the genre of Southern Gothic / Gothic Americana, and I'd like to settle into that space myself. These writings and characters are very personal and important to me, even if the subject matter or art seems strange to you.

Some of my inspirations include: Streetlight Manifesto, Toh Kay, Mount Eerie, Have a Nice Life, Giles Corey, William Joseph Martin, Timber Timbre, William Gay, James Hampton, William Faulkner, Howard Finster, Kerry James Marshall and many more.

Please view my work with discretion, and remember that these pieces come from a place of love within myself for where I'm from.

Please also be aware that the theme of suicide and generational / hereditary suffering from mental illness is very prelevant in my work, and something that I struggle with in my day to day life. If this subject matter is something that you cannot handle, I suggest you do not look at my work, and respect my freedom to express myself. Thank you.

Characters

Angels | Beings of The Above.
HIM. ♫ | A Sparrow Alighted Upon Our Shoulder HIM is the father of all things. He has grown weary and spiteful of them, choosing to tear his wings, feathers, and head from his body so that he shares as little similarities to them as possible. He is not kind, understanding, or a being to be reasoned with. He chooses to let his son, Yeshua deal with the affairs of humans, as he cannot stand them, and has to constantly be asked not to destroy them all. The liquid that drips from the stump of his neck is a mixture of saliva, lymph fluid, and tears. He only speaks through telepathy in the hearer’s own head voice, so his actual voice is only known to a select few.
Raguel. ♫ | What Would You Give Not much is currently known about Raguel, all that he's disclosed is that he was wrongfully ejected from the Lord's court for doing nothing but telling the truth, which apparently Tha Lord didn't take too well. He's been spending his time on Earth parasitically attaching himself to an old man, and serving justice as he was meant to do within Heaven.
Themis. ♫ | There Will be Rain A Pillar of Justice that was booted from The Above after upsetting Him while he was in a frenzied state. Thoroughly ashamed of what she had done at the time, she tore her own head from herself and removed all identifying features from her body that she could, aside from her horns- which were too hard to remove. After several decades on Earth, she got over her feelings of inadequacy, happy to herd livestock and work as an assistant at the local church. Her shroud is a part of her, and cannot be removed. She eats and drinks as normal, reaching beneath her shroud to put things where her mouth should be. She has been on Earth far longer than Raguel or any other Pillar or Angel damned to the planet. She doesn’t seem to mind that much though.
Yeshua. ♫ | Lily's Dance Compassionate, Loving, a bit of a ditz. Yeshua is HIM's first and most well-known son. He adores all living things, and works hard to keep things in order in The Above so that his father does not have to intervene.
Sirus. ♫ | Dark Rum Noir Once a highly respected member of The Lord's court, he has grown bored, nihilistic, and self-absorbed. Although he loves to talk about himself, there isn't much to say about him here.
Demons | Beings of The Below.
Jeremiah. ♫ | Drowned in Water and Light The one and only son of Satan. Unlike his misunderstood, soft-spoken father, Jeremiah is something to be feared. A self-assigned patron saint of the suicidal, he puppets the vulnerable into spreading messages of self mutilation. He has recently found a method of spreading his teachings with a further reach through the use of a semi-popular online streamer.
Oskar. ♫ | Paint The Town Red A very volatile Pillar of Envy. He is very dangerous, and very bigoted. Always has his finger on the pulse of the latest human trends, has recently taken to psychologically tormenting teenagers into developing various disorders. Loves social media.
Reuben. ♫ | Cry Again A (former) Pillar of Sloth. He has been demoted recently for not actually getting anything done. Ironic.
Salleos. ♫ | As Bright as the Night A Pillar of Gluttony. Thin as a board, Sharp as a tack.
Satan. passed away a very long time ago.
Humans | Beings of The Between.
Raymond Grimes. ♫ | Fallen Peaches A mysterious and quiet man, not much is known about Raymond aside from the fact that he appeared in town one day out of nowhere. He is considered a very important member of the community. Connected to Raguel for the time being.
Rocko Pearson. ♫ | Ghosts in the Static That weird kind of guy that could be 26 or 56 depending on who you ask. Soft-spoken and mysterious, usually seen hanging around Raymond. House Organist for the local Episcopal Church.
M435TR0. ♫ | Beezlebub Proof that starting a cult is just as easy as having a cute mascot. Puppet of Jeremiah. Doesn't know that.
Cyrano. ♫ | TTTDTFTL She's been doing a little better these days.
